Introducing: Sustainable Traum-Häuser and their hosts

“Who are the faces behind the holiday accommodations on our portal?” – This is exactly what we set out to find out. With the “Traum-Häuser” campaign, we would like to give our hosts the opportunity to tell their story and share what makes their holiday home special.
In the first edition, we’ll be introducing you to four particularly sustainable holiday rentals. What’s more, the hosts will be giving us insights into the day-to-day running of their businesses, revealing their recipes for success, and giving us tips for things that holidaymakers absolutely shouldn’t miss during their stay.

“The forest” – sustainable relaxation in the Lüneburg Heath
“A second home in the forest” – that’s how Trine Pade describes her wooden house in Höckel in the Nordheide region. Whether they’re nature lovers or stressed-out city dwellers, all the guests who stay here experience a harmonious blend of modernity and comfort with unobstructed views of the woods. Thanks to its photovoltaic installation, its storage battery and its heat pump, the house is totally off-grid when it comes to energy use. In fact, tap water is the only resource that’s sourced from elsewhere. With 135 m² of space, 3 bedrooms and a large living area, the house can comfortably accommodate up to 6 people for a relaxing break together.

The Schmidtbauer family and their “Altes Schifferhaus” (“Old Skipper’s House”) on the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula
The listed half-timbered house, which is around 240 years old, is situated in a large garden with old fruit trees. Awarded 5 stars by the German Tourism Association, the Altes Schifferhaus stands out due to its painstaking, eco-friendly renovation. Only sustainable, biologically safe, and ecological building materials were used. The compartments were filled with straw-wrapped clay beams, and the walls and ceilings were plastered with clay. During the process, Henrik Schmidtbauer made over 4,000 clay bricks himself.

Enjoy “Wohnen mit Genuss” (“A Pleasurable Stay”) at the Wolff family’s place in Upper Franconia
The name of the accommodation says it all, and you can immediately feel the great sense of connection it shares with the Upper Franconia region. Built in 2020, the apartment has been furnished and kitted out with a great deal of care. It also features a number of solutions and products that were selected because they tread as lightly as possible on the environment, including photovoltaics, an electric car charging station, a heat pump, rainwater treatment and even eco-friendly toilet paper. Boasting 81 m² of living space, this 5-star apartment has everything you need for a perfect (and perfectly relaxing) holiday.

A sustainable break on the “Habitide” houseboat on the Schlei
Katharina Khodami fulfilled her very own, personal Baltic Sea dream in the town of Schleswig by the Schlei by constructing a houseboat that was never actually intended to be rented out. Katharina built the “Habitide” entirely by herself. Rainwater is used for various service applications, and solar and wind installations both produce electricity. Guests can enjoy watching the play of light on the water in a plastic-free setting or explore the Schlei region from the water in a dinghy. Measuring in at 12 x 4 meters or 48 m², the houseboat can accommodate up to 6 people.
