Rush for vacation apartments on Mallorca – Traum-Ferienwohnungen records rapid increase of demand

Bremen, March 16th, 2021. Since Sunday, Mallorca as well as the other Balearic Islands, some areas on the Spanish mainland and parts of Portugal are no longer considered risk areas. This has been decided by the Federal Foreign Office, taking effect on March 14th. Thus, any travel warnings have been lifted for these areas. For vacationers, this means no more mandatory testing and quarantine upon their return. However, a negative Corona test is still required before the departure to Spain, as well as the completion of an online form on the “Spain Travel Health” portal for health checks. The German federal government continues to advise against touristic travel. But a current data analysis by Traum-Ferienwohnungen shows just how great the wanderlust is at the moment: Since the travel warning was lifted, demand for vacation accommodation on Mallorca has been rising rapidly on the online portal.

“Already since Friday, we are noticing a jump in demand for vacation homes and apartments on the Germans’ favorite island. Since then we register, on average, 140 percent more website visitors per day than in the week before”, says the press spokeswoman of Traum-Ferienwohnungen, Franziska Borel. She further states: “The vacationers are currently not only looking actively for suitable accommodations but also make concrete plans: On the weekend, the number of reservation inquiries for accommodations on Mallorca has quadrupled in comparison to the previous days as well”. Most vacationers seem unable to wait any longer because above all else the travel period over Easter is currently very popular: “At the moment, most vacationers on our portal are looking for accommodations to already spend their Easter vacation on Mallorca. In second place of the presently most popular travel periods for the Balearic island is the month July, closely followed by June and August”, Borel continues.

Currently, the portal Traum-Ferienwohnungen still has enough free vacation homes on Mallorca. Over Easter, approximately 73 percent of the accommodations on the Balearic island are still available. In June, 76 percent of the vacation homes on Mallorca are available for a holiday in the sun, while in July 67 percent and in August 64 percent of the accommodations are still free. This could change in the coming weeks, however: “We assume that the number of booking requests will continue to rise steadily and that the vacation homes and apartments on Mallorca will fill up rapidly”, Borel suspects.
